Our History

Our story began in 2012 when one of the founders Mary Mukutuma took a trip to Zimbabwe where she began to see many people living in poverty and needed support.

This trip is what inspired the work that Leap into Hope is doing. Mary was moved by compassion and understood that there was something she could do to give hope to the people living in poverty of which some had lost hope. Her and her husband (Fani) started to respond to the needs of the people by shipping aid such as used clothes and shoes donated by friends. Our founders learnt that some children were failing to raise school fees to pay for their education and they started to raise funds for this. Children started to receive funding for their education, uniforms and stationery. Some donors wanted to sponsor specific children. Some children were now leaving the education system and they were getting them back.

They were donating aid to children’s homes, communities and to the vulnerable in the community through local organisations. This work began to grow and great needs were identified. When the need for medical resources such as medical equipment and medication was identified they started to address this too. They felt that more could be done. The founders realised that doing this alone would not be enough and a bigger approach was needed. Fani and Mary then founded the charity Leap into Hope in September 2018. Leap into Hope supporters have been donating money to care for children in need, pay for medication and equipment, food aid, clothes, shoes, books etc. Child sponsorship is one of the areas that Leap into Hope has developed over time. This approach addresses some of the root causes of poverty i.e. lack of education. Some sponsors have visited their sponsored children. We work with whole communities to bring about long-term change for all that lasts. With evolving of the approach we want to have self-reliance.

Who we are

Preventing and relieving poverty to those in need including orphans and vulnerable children

Leap into Hope is a UK-based charity that aims at preventing and relieving poverty to those in need including orphans and vulnerable children living in poverty stricken communities worldwide. To enable orphans and vulnerable children to access the education system, we fund their education. We also actively work with disengaged children and young people, with a view to re-engaging them in educational opportunities. A child sponsorship programme is available. Children have been able to stay in education and some have re-engaged. Leap into Hope supports healthcare projects including provision of medical equipment and medications to hospitals. It also provides items such as toiletries and food etc. to those in need. Leap into Hope funds a school ‘feeding programme’ by providing a daily nutritious meal. This has had amazing results. We collect and deliver clothes, shoes etc. to those in need. Our Christian beliefs form the foundation of what we do as we express our faith through practical ways. We also want to help communities to access income-generating projects that will provide regular income.

Our faith

Leap into Hope expresses its Christian faith in practical ways anywhere in the world were the need is. We help communities overcome the worst effects of poverty and works alongside locally-based organisations to help people and restore hope. Together we can make a difference. You can help us transform the lives of families around the world. Our faith inspired us to give hope to the vulnerable in communities.

Our faith in God is at the heart of Leap into Hope and we share this with others. We follow the teaching of Jesus Christ and understand that faith without works is dead. We do this practically by making a positive difference in the world around us and share this love.

Global Approaches

We tackle poverty where there is great need. We believe that together with others such as other charities, institutions, we help people all over the world by giving them hope or restoring their hope.

Leap into Hope believes that by working together with communities, local organisations and our supporters we make an impact in helping people’s lives. Together we can tackle the root causes of poverty such as lack of education and also the consequences of poverty such as unsafe water, poor sanitation, no access to medical resources and no ability to generate income.

We help communities overcome the worst effects of poverty and works alongside locally-based organisations to help people and restore hope. Together we can make a difference. You can help us transform the lives of families around the world.
