Feeding programs

Leap into Hope provides a nutritious school meal to children. These meals attract hungry children into the classroom. This gives the children an opportunity to learn, giving them hope for the future. We want to help these children grow with no signs of malnutrition. Teachers have informed us the children are able to concentrate in class when they have eaten. Some children attend school without having eaten anything. One day a teacher in one of the schools in Zimbabwe told us that when she asked her class how many had eaten only three out of a class of forty five had had something to eat.

School feeding committees are run by school development committees, teachers and volunteers. The local coordinator works and monitors these committees. They regularly visit schools to ensure the meals are cooked and served correctly and encourage the community volunteers. The program uses locally produced food hence supporting local communities. They are responsible for preparing the school meals. It is a concern to us to see hungry children hence why we feed them. We are also working on getting sustainable solutions to enable them to be fed in the longer term. We want to work in partnership with local communities in driving for self-reliance and hopefully end hunger for good in their communities. We want to empower communities to be self-reliant and encourage actions to improve their lives. Sustainability is key in ending hunger. It is important that as children grow up they get nutritious meals to enable them to grow as they should otherwise the children will present with malnutrition.
