The state of Zimbabwe’s health system has significantly changed with some hospitals running without adequate equipment. In the face of rising needs, the healthcare budget is chronically underfunded, and stocks of essential medicines, diagnostics and supplies have been hugely affected. We visited Gutu Mission Hospital in October 2022 which is in Masvingo Province. We saw the state of the wards, outpatients, X-ray, pharmacy, rehabilitation department, HIV/AIDS centre etc.
Gutu Mission Hospital is a district hospital serving a population of 250, 000 as the hub for Gutu District Health services. It has a nursing school and 165 beds. It receives referrals from 30 surrounding primary health care facilities. They are all dependent on Gutu Mission Hospital for complicated cases.
The staff are hardworking, however the services delivered are restricted by lack of equipment or unserviceable and unreliable equipment. The x-ray machine is not working. The hospital needs x-ray machines, incubators, ultrasound machines, theatre monitors, vacuum extractors, vital signs monitors, dopplers, hospital beds, glucometers, blood pressure machines etc.
Leap into Hope has sourced equipment for Gutu Mission Hospital worth at least £350, 000. The equipment needs to be shipped in a container. We are raising £11, 500 for the shipment costs of the container to the hospital. Hope you will be able to support this cause by following this link to donate: https://leapintohope.org/donate/
